Learning and playing by the Rules of Golf is very important. Golf is a game where you are expected to play by the rules and it is each player's responsibility to follow the rules. If an infraction occurs it is their responsibility to note the penalty and adjust their score accordingly.

The USGA and The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, Scotland, jointly write and interpret the Rules of Golf to guard the tradition and integrity of the game. The United State Golf Association is responsible for enforcing the rules in the USA. In the rest of the world the ruling body is the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews.

The Rules of Golf are designed to make the golf fair for all concerned. The rules can seem complex and confusing however there are three important principles to remember:

  • Play the course as you find it.
  • Play the Ball as it lies.
  • And if you can't do either, do what's fair.
