With its good weather, great hotels, superb golf and varied
nightlife Costa Brava has all the qualities to become the best new golf
destination in Spain. Costa Brava is part of the Catalonia region in North
Eastern Spain and is emerging as a major golfing destination. It offers the
golfer a cheaper and less crowded option to the golf on the Costa Del Sol.
There are many top class courses a selection of which are included below.
PGA Golf de Cataluña
The
course can only be described as magnificent. Built in the Girona mountains,
it has beautiful green fir, scrub and purple heather lining most fairways.
The fairways and greens are American stadium in design with water hazards
and boarded island greens.
One of the best courses in Spain, the PGA Golf de Catalunya has hosted
European PGA Tour events including the Spanish Peugeot Open in May 2000. The
Sarazen World Open Championship was played there in October 1999 and that
year, the course was host to the European Seniors Qualifying School. This
beautiful course is quite a difficult one, with trouble provided by the
numerous trees and lakes. This is a long course with naturally undulating
terrain and it is suitable for big hitters, though accuracy is also
essential from the tee.
Costa Brava Golf Club
Santa
Cristina D’Aro, Gerona, Spain
A study of contrasts. The first 9 holes are mountain holes with fairways
lined with pines and cork oaks, while the last 9 holes are on flat ground
with wide fairways. The finishing hole is a long par 4 leading down to a
bay.
18 holes, Par 70
Golf Fontanals de Cerdanya
A good balance that turns this course into one of the most attractive of
Europe. It is located in la Cerdeña, and probably it is the last chance to
enjoy this sport in one of the most beautiful landscapes of Cataluña.

Emporda Golf Club
Gualta,
Gerona, Spain
Emporda Golf comprises has two18 holes courses: the Links Course and the
Forest Course, both designed by the American architect, Robert Von Hagge.
The Links courses has many dunes and lakes and is similar in style to a
Scottish links course. The Forest course has long fairways lined with trees

excellent -- they are large and have a lot of movement. The courses have
many out-of-bounds off the tee, and are both challenging for all levels of
