Hotels For Golfer - Discount Golf Accommodation England

There's plenty of tradition in England, and golf is very much a part of this island's long history. The popularity of golf in Scotland spread rapidly to neighboring England, where it was introduced in 1608. People were playing golf in England 168 years before the United States become a nation.
St Mellion Golf Club
With its two championship golf courses, this famous West Country golf resort has hosted the Benson & Hedges International on six occasions, firmly securing St Mellion's position as the finest venue for golf in Cornwall and as one of Europe's premier resorts for both golf and leisure.
Royal Birkdale Golf Club
The stunning coastal resort of Southport is host to the finest links courses in England. This is the home of Royal Birkdale, for many golfers, quite simply, the best of all the great golf courses to have staged The Open Championship.

Royal Birkdale Golf Club in the town of Southport, is one of the clubs in the Open Championship rotation. The club has hosted The Open eight times since 1954, with the next championship to be held in 2008. Previous winners of the Open at Royal Birkdale are Mark O'Meara, Ian Baker-Finch, Tom Watson, Johnny Miller, Lee Trevino, Arnold Palmer and Peter Thomson (on two separate occasions). Birkdale is the only course in the Open rotation that has never had a champion from the United Kingdom. Royal Birkdale has also hosted the Ryder Cup, the Walker Cup, and the Curtis Cup.
Established since 1889, golfing enthusiasts may like to play a round on this famous 18-hole championship course and walk in the steps of some great sports stars. All players must hold a handicap certificate and observe the dress code that applies to the course, clubhouse and dining room areas. The Spike Bar and lounge area offer a quiet haven for relaxing after a tough day on the course. A caddy service and private tuition are available, but must be booked in advance. Non-club members and visitors need to make a reservation prior to arrival.

Woodhall Spa Golf Club

Home of the English Golf Union, Woodhall Spa Golf Club offers two superb inland golf courses - the Bracken Course and the Hotchkin Course, the latter being recognised as the championship layout at Woodhall Spa. Stafford Hotchkin redesigned the original course in the 1920's and since then, the Hotchkin Course has hosted most of the top national and international amateur events. As regards quality, Woodhall Spa vies with Ganton for the position of best inland course in Britain, while Golf Magazine recently ranked it among the world's 30 best golf courses.

Hotchkin Course - One of Britain’s finest courses, The Hotchkin, is built on sandy soil which allows for year round play. Set amongst banks of gorse and broom, backed up with layered canopies of oak, fir and towering silver birch and encapsulated all upon a glorious carpet of heather, the natural beauty of this Lincolnshire oasis serves only to emphasise the majesty of this famous course. Renowned for its formidable bunkers and narrow fairways, most visitors will remember the panoramic views of the 11th and the charm of the short 12th hole. It has often been stated by the golfing press and top players alike that there are 18 great holes on the Hotchkin. A golfers’ course rewarding of good shots, considerate to the moderate, punitive to the bad – but always presented in pristine condition amidst wonderful natural surroundings.

Bracken Course - Created from commercial woodland, scrub and arable farmland, Donald Steel’s vision for The Bracken Course has materialised into a course of exceptional finesse and imaginative design. Although it is situated alongside The Hotchkin, the design and terrain are quite different. Many of the holes are in a parkland setting and the remainder make good use of Bracken Wood at the far end of the estate. The fairway and greenside bunkers, together with the large undulating greens, provide a resemblance to an American style course. Much emphasis has been placed on ecology with many species of wild flowers encouraged to grow whilst, at the same time, securing the habitat of local wildlife. This subject is high on the list of priorities of the English Golf Union who, amongst its many roles, provide an advisory service on how to build golf courses in harmony with nature.
